UN International Criminal Tribunal

Challenge

The United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) prosecuted individuals charged with crimes related to the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. The ICTR produced a large body of legal documents that are invaluable to the international criminal and genocide law community. However, making this primary source material available in a searchable form for the international legal community had been problematic.

Solution

Resources Online, in collaboration with Metatorial Services, developed and built an online document archive, which features a powerful faceted search feature (driven by associated metadata), full-text search of thousands of documents, and maintenance tools for adding new documents to the archive. The United Nations ICTR legal librarians who continue to work on the project can upload new documents as they become available so that legal scholars have access to the latest information. Resources Online also produces DVD and CD versions of the content repository.
